Über uns

Fundación Cibervoluntarios (CIBER) is an Spanish NGO of international reference, a pioneer in technological volunteering, that since 2001 has been committed to an inclusive digital transition and has worked to eliminate the digital divide. Our goal is to ensure that all people have the opportunity to access, know and use technology to promote their autonomy, and have the same rights and opportunities for education, employment and social participation. To make it possible, we have a network of 5,500 cyber volunteers and we collaborate with more than 6,000 organisations.

Fundación Cibervoluntarios trains thousands of people a year for free, in the safe and positive use of technology, and adapts the training to their needs: older people, women, young people, migrants, people with disabilities, SMEs, entrepreneurs and the self-employed. Since 2008, it has engaged thousands of people in Europe in co-creating digital tools and solutions to foster a human-centred, open, ethical and secure Internet. Working mainly in the creation of open educational ICT resources, tools and platforms, piloting and testing solutions with ICT Living Labs, focus groups, research, dissemination and communication and UX design.

The foundation also encourages technological vocations and entrepreneurship in STEAM areas, especially among girls. It works on national and international research, training and awareness projects in the fight against disinformation and misinformation, defence of security and privacy, ethical use of data, cybersecurity, AI-based tools and methodologies, and the strengthening of digital democracy and sovereignty. In short, favouring Human Rights and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the implementation of user centric approaches in the development of tools and raising awareness among citizens.

CIBER puts special attention in helping groups of people in a situation of digital vulnerability, that may be excluded from information society for any reason: gender, age, professional and/or social environment, lack of time, knowledge, skills, motivation and/or material or economic resources. All this work has received several recognitions such as: the economic and social recognition of Google.org, for being one of 50 entities that are changing the world, and the social recognition of the Financial Times as one of “Europe’s 100 digital champions”. In 2023 was acknowledged with the Prize to the promotion of Digital rights by CLABE. 30% of the Fundación Cibervoluntarios activities are carried out in rural areas.
